EFG Product News - May 2014

    Let's make it happen.

We are no longer attached to a single desk. Instead the office is designed to promote communication, to put people in contact and to let people work in the environment that is best suited for any given activity. Based on this knowledge we now launch a collection of new products to meet the needs in the active office.

EFG Nova - The chair with one design, but many variations.
EFG Bold - The flexible and multi- functional seating pouf.
EFG Entry - A multifunctional area suited to planning your day.
EFG Box - A sheltered place for quick phone calls.

    Milan Design Week Trendwatch

    What was "in" this year?

The fair was visually strong, with last year’s obsessive booth styling taken to even greater heights.

The fair is also indicated the trends we’d been thinking about began to take shape.

The fairground at the Milan Furniture Fair was a great place to see attainable designs by established companies and talents, but typically it’s not the place to go when you’re scouting for new names. For that, you have to brave the long walks, aching feet, and lack of taxis that come along with trying to get to all the shows around town, from Rossana Orlandi gallery to the far-flung Lambrate district. We say this every year, but we barely saw half of what was on offer; that said, we saw a lot of nice things.

    TRENDS:

Vertical Storage: Vertical storage now seems to overshadow the previous trend of vertical gardens.

Classic Revival: Many large brands concentrated on reviving and relaunching their tried and tested classics, such as Vitra Home.

Colours: Colour played a major role across all furniture companies. Pastels such as candy pink, terracotta, mud, soft blue, coral and violet. Neutrals and de-saturated colours painted the mood. Pale pink was the colour used by many manufacturers, while candy hues were also prevalent.

Lemon yellow is all the rage! Vibrant color pops like coral, jade, turquoise and lemon yellow are making a splash this season. “These zingy shades create a feel-good effect. Design tip: be sure to pair them with neutral tones.”...

Wood: Bare wood, solid wood and truly beautiful joinery appeared to be the biggest trends.

Marble: Marble, seams of brass and (to a lesser extent).

Copper: Copper, gold and silver are still in vogue, with design showing its precious side.

This trend has been picking up speed in the last few years and will perhaps continue throughout the 2010s.

Just remember—you can mix ’n’ match different colored metals—no need to opt for all gold or all silver!

Brass: With metal used liberally in a vast portion of designs, brass made an appearance as a top new trend. It was used as a detail on furniture and lighting, giving designs a real Fifties look. Many manufacturers had industrial elements in the designs.
