Creating a relaxed atmosphere in the workplace

Challenges and solutions
In the process of centralizing the HQ in Oslo, Gjensidige has not only given 1000 of their employees a new place to work, but they have also implemented a whole new management philosophy, providing a platform for a new culture in the company. Previously most of the employees had their own cell-offices with stationary-PC and a telephone. Now they are all organized into zones with free seating and clean desk policy. Even the CEO…! The new strategy gives the employees much more flexibility.

The solution for Gjensidige consisted of greenery and plants alongside a choice of soft upholstered products in warm colours create the framework for the new workplace. The fundamental idea of the project was to create a space where employees would experience a homely and personal connection to the building. The decor in the meeting rooms and social areas has a subdued design, and there was an extensive use of textiles and oak. This project is accentuated by using soft seating as acoustic solutions and implementing carefully chosen colours and materials on the furniture in both meeting rooms and breakout areas. Although only 80% of the workforce has workstations, there is always room for everybody.

Most of the furniture utilised was especially designed for this project. For the duration of the two-year long project, all the furniture was carefully tested, the various work zones facilities have been designed with cable management and screens. Customised storage solutions and sofas are situated in the kitchens around the building.
