Let´s Create: Interior Designers´ Chicago Challenge

    Release #1: Basversionen

    EFG Create Seating October 2016

How do you measure success? For designer Jonas Forsman it may be expressed as 380 millimeters, the basic dimension for his storage system EFG Create, which has quickly become a favorite in the office world.

The concept is now taken further in the form of sofas, offering nearly limitless possibilities to create truly flexible office environments. With both storage, seating and room dividers in the same system, the office can grow and change smarter than ever.

Those who have played with Lego will intuitively understand the beauty of EFG Create. You assemble it just as you want and feel like. High, wide, low, angled or straight. No specific screwdrivers or keys are needed. All modules measure 380 millimeters in height and depth. With the cube as the basic design form the system can be adapted to reflect how you want to work and the image of your office.

EFG Create Seating was presented to the industry at the Stockholm Furniture Fair in February, where it constituted the core of EFG's large booth. Since then, Jonas Forsman has worked further to refine the products now placed on the market.

-With storage and seating in place, the base is laid for more products. I can see screen walls, space dividers, more storage variants, more cases, boxes, perhaps more removable storage, says Jonas.

The new EFG Create Seating range is the solution for a stylish, easy to place and comfortable seating solution for work, meetings or meals in the modern office environment. The couch is composed of a metal base and an upholstered seat. Jonas has devoted special attention to the upholstery, and discussed the level of detail directly with the producer to define the right seams and angles.

-I wanted the fabric in as few parts as possible, but also to get the stitches to work as a decoration of the sofa. A seemingly simple detail that has become common theme in the product, explains Jonas who with EFG Create Seating delivers his second major project for EFG.

The easiest way to describe Jonas’ approach to design is to let Marcel Wanders do it. Here’s what the Dutch master said in a Frame interview in 2015:

”It makes sense to work on smart, functional objects with new features. That’s how he thinks. It’s what he wakes up for in the morning. He wants to have smart ideas – not just make something beautiful.”

-I don’t just draw ideas freely from the air, there has to be a practical challenge. Above all, it must be possible to manufacture the product in a good way. My design is realistic while pushing the boundaries as much as possible, says Jonas who after his training in engineering design at Chalmers had a flying start with products that have spread throughout the design world with its ingenious simplicity. Jonas has been awarded the Red Dot on several occasions and also the Design S for their products.

EFG Create Seating is offered in a number of pre-configurations, but can also be ordered as individual modules. Eleven standard colors on the legs and stand and six different table surfaces give great opportunities for variation in style and look. All EFG Create products are environmentally friendly and sustainably produced.

The storage system EFG Create quickly became a favorite in the office world. The concept is now taken further in the form of sofas, offering nearly limitless possibilities to create truly flexible office environments.

With both storage, seating and room dividers in the same system, the office can grow and change smarter than ever.

The workplace commonly known as the office is changing rapidly. Digitalization, flexibility and image are the driving forces while the line between work and home is becoming increasingly blurred. This puts new demands on workplace furnishings. EFG Create is a system that allows you to hit several birds with one stone.

Those who have played with Lego will intuitively understand the beauty of EFG Create. You assemble it just as you want and feel like. High, wide, low, angled or straight. All modules measure 380 millimeters in height and depth. With the cube as the basic design form the system can be adapted to reflect how you want to work and the expression you want to create. No specific screwdrivers or keys are needed to create a personal solution.

The new EFG Create Seating range is the solution for a stylish, easy to place and comfortable seating solution for work, meetings or meals in the modern office environment. It is designed to be seamlessly combined with storage while it also works fine on its own. The flexible modules are easily configured from small to large depending on how needs change at the workplace.

EFG Create Seating is offered in a number of pre-configurations, but can also be ordered as individual modules. Eleven standard colors on the legs and stand and six different table surfaces give great opportunities for variation in style and look. All EFG Create products are environmentally friendly and sustainably produced corresponding to the Nordic Eco label criteria.

EFG Create Seating is created by Jonas Forsman, now on in his third year as a designer for EFG European Furniture Group.

-Jonas’ design combines functionality and innovativeness in a way that is very valuable when the office workplace is undergoing massive changes, says Marianne Dahl, Design Manager at EFG European Furniture Group.

Simultaneously with the new EFG Create Seating products two complementary products are launched in the form of small, elegant table EFG Navi and the flexible pallet SAVO Joi that both works great with EFG Create.

Emerging trends for the workplace from Clerkenwell Design Week

Clerkenwell Design week 2016 did not disappoint- a three day celebration of design driven wall to wall creativity.

It was great to see the industry's response to the launch of our latest lounge chair Woods Club and our modular storage solution EFG Create. To find out more about the emerging trends making an impact at this years’ show download our trend report.
Here is a quick roundup of our top 3.

    1. The topic on the forefront this year was ‘biophilic design’ the craft of bringing the outdoors in. Some took this quite literally, making for thought provoking displays that blurred the boundaries and truly transformed spaces.

    2. The simple shapes and hues of Scandi’ design mixed with flecks of coppers, golds and brass accessories were plentiful, making for elegant and stylish displays throughout Clerkenwell this year.

    3. Innovation was another key player - with many sectors within the industry showcasing visions of our future environments and behaviours. A particular favourite was Benjamin Hurbert’s GO, a 3D printed wheelchair shaped to perfectly complement its user – a design concept we champion.

An inspirational week for workplace interiors and design, thanks to everyone who visited our stand and shared their appreciation for our media wall installation. Download the full trend report here.

The environment is the biggest winner as EFG helps Ericsson help the Red Cross
    Feb 11 –

The environment is the biggest winner as EFG helps Ericsson help the Red Cross

EFG´s environmentally smart service EFG Reuse was introduced at last year's Stockholm Furniture Fair, as a way of prolonging the life of unwanted furniture while refurbishing offices.

Today, only a year later, EFG Reuse is a brand of its own with proven success. A recent example is how the Red Cross received 175 fine workplaces from communications giant Ericsson - with EFG Reuse acting as efficient intermediary.

The concept of EFG Reuse is just as clever and simple as needed in the fight against climate change and environmental degradation. The basic idea is to save rather than to waste, by extending the life of office furniture.

Office interiors are becoming more and more important in order to strengthen a company's image and increase work satisfaction and staff performance, while also putting sustainability and environmental concern into concrete action. The service EFG Reuse is an integral part of creating effective and sustainable solutions.

The value chain starts with an inventory of unwanted furniture when a company plans to upgrade their office.  What can be sold and used by someone else? The rescued furniture will then be donated – in the name of the giver – to the receiver, most often a non-profit organization. Finally, the surplus material is carefully sorted and sent for recycling. The whole operation is documented in a report presenting both financial savings and where all products and materials have gone.

The opportunity to help the Red Cross raise the quality of their office premises in central Stockholm arose when Ericsson had a surplus of office furnishings. EFG:s Pelle Halling coordinated the entire transaction, from mood boards and layout plans to transports and waste handling.

-The Red Cross were initially planning to purchase new desktops to mount on old stands. The result would not be particularly good, so I got in touch with Ericsson to find a better solution, says Pelle Halling who is Sweden’s foremost pioneer in recycling of office furniture as well as the man behind EFG:s focus in this field .

Ericsson enthusiastically rose to the challenge, and ultimately the Red Cross now has 175 fresh workplaces with height adjustable tables and sound absorbers, without paying anything.

But what happened to the Red Cross's old discarded furniture?

-We managed to recover quite a lot and passed it on to both Doctors Without Borders and local charity The City Mission. The remaining furniture was sorted and taken for recycling, explains Pelle Halling who will now launch EFG Reuse in two different formats: Reuse Basic and Reuse Commitment.

Jonas’ new sofa system makes EFG Create even smarter
    Feb 03 –

Jonas’ new sofa system makes EFG Create even smarter

With super-flexible storage system EFG Create, his debut as designer for EFG was an instant success. This year’s Stockholm Furniture Fair sees the introduction of a new sofa system - stylish, easy to place and comfortable couch seating for work, meetings or meals in modern office environments.

“The Create sofa is developed in tight collaboration between EFG and myself. I like to work as close as possible with the manufacturer”, says Jonas Forsman now in his third year with EFG European Furniture Group

The easiest way to describe the his approach to design is to let Marcel Wanders do it. "It makes sense to work on smart, functional objects with new features. That's how he thinks. It's what he wakes up for in the morning. He wants to have smart ideas - not just make something beautiful", the Dutch master concluded in a 2015 Frame interview.

Jonas is 35 years old and is already celebrating his tenth anniversary as a professional designer. With a degree in technical design from Chalmers university of Technology in Gothenburg, he got a flying start and quickly became both widely traveled and published. The chair Arc and the lamp Parasol flourished in the design world with its ingenious simplicity. The same humble and result-oriented approach is evident in his collaboration with EFG. Finding solutions to specific needs is a major driving force.

“I don’t want to just pull ideas out of my hat. I want my design to be realistic but at the same time pushing the boundaries”, says Jonas.

The new Create sofa is designed to sync with the intelligent modular system that is the basis for the Create series. It can easily integrate with the storage modules while also working well on their own.

Marianne Dahl, product development manager at EFG European Furniture Group, is very happy to have Jonas Forsman on the team.

“Jonas is easy-going and unpretentious to work with, and I am convinced that we are only at the beginning of a long and fruitful cooperation with many fine products to come”.

The sofa system EFG Create will be previewed in booth A37 : 20 at the Stockholm Furniture Fair.

From Jonas Forsman's own description of the Create sofa:

Despite its compact dimensions and visual lightness, it is really comfortable. At a glance it looks strict and straight, while it signals inviting seating for the user. The straight back makes it easy to place the furniture along walls or together with EFG Create storage furniture.

The sofa system is tailored to fit the dimensions of EFG Create storage. A two-seat sofa has the same width as two medium or three small storage modules. This creates exciting opportunities to build a landscape - integrating seating and storage. The couch is composed of a metal base and an upholstered seat. The base can also hold a table top, armrest or EFG Create storage modules. The different components in the Create system offers lots of combination options.

At last, silent night for tired office ears
    Dec 17 –

At last, silent night for tired office ears

Almost a year ago we launched EFG Surround, a system that both shields and suppresses noise in open office environments. The new range quickly became a commercial success with many happy users.

Major pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca in Gothenburg invested in 90 units, thus creating one of the country's top office environments in collaboration with Wingårdh architects.

-With EFG Surround we have contemporary, flexible and easily furnished products that reflect our business, says Ronnie Spångberg, project manager for AstraZeneca's transition from traditional to activity based workplace.

    ---

In many offices, however, the environment is anything but restful. Many office workers are disturbed daily by loud sounds, noise and poor acoustics in the office. Those are the people that EFG wishes a peaceful Christmas, while continuing to create new sound-smart solutions and products.

”Stylish and modern offices are attractive, but when employees go home with a headache and ringing in their ears, they remain inferior workplaces. Acoustics are too important to be forgotten”, says EFG:s Design and Product Development Manager Marianne Dahl.

Research is consistent, both in Sweden and internationally. Poor acoustics and noise make us tense and triggers our primal instincts. The body switches to fight mode instead of creative work. Most stressing is the general noise level in the office. It often produces fatigue, irritability, headache and concentration difficulties, while both memory and learning ability deteriorate.

EFG Surround was introduced at the Stockholm Furniture Fair in February 2015 and quickly became a best seller in its category. The response from customers and users is unambiguously positive.

”The success of EFG Surround is a prime example of interplay between materials, design and planning”, says Marianne Dahl, promising new surprises at the 2016 Furniture Fair in February. ”We will show products in the making and are happy to invite architects, clients and other visitors to give feedback on the new products.”
